Empowering the Future of Transit: Lessons from Our PennTRAIN Training Experience
At Avail, we believe that technology is only as powerful as the people who use it, and that’s why workforce development is at the heart of everything we do.
This April, we worked alongside 16 passionate transit professionals across Pennsylvania during a PennTRAIN training event hosted at Amtran in Altoona, PA. More than just a training session, this gathering was a reflection of what’s possible when agencies, vendors, and peers come together with a shared purpose: to learn, to grow, and to elevate the rider experience.
Turning Tools Into Confidence
Too often in our industry, agencies are handed tools without the time or resources to truly master them. That’s where programs like PennTRAIN come in, and why we’ve invested in creating a hands-on, outcome-driven experience.
Over two full days, participants didn’t just sit through presentations. They:
-
Completed Level 1 & 2 assessments, measuring growth from start to finish
-
Worked directly with MTS quick guides and troubleshooting resources
-
Explored Help Center tools and reporting functions, learning how to extract value from their data
-
Demystified the Portal and RMA processes to reduce friction and save time
-
Engaged in interactive discussions after every session
-
Earned Train-the-Trainer certifications, ensuring the knowledge doesn’t stop with them
These professionals left with more than just information; they gained clarity, confidence, and a network of peers just as committed to doing this work well.
Learning That Lasts
None of this would have been possible without the generosity and support of Amtran. From providing buses and a training venue to keeping everyone fueled with food and hospitality.
At the close of the event, the message was clear: when we invest in the people behind the systems, we unlock the full potential of our technology and ultimately deliver better outcomes for riders.
Our Commitment
As agencies continue to evolve and face new challenges, we remain committed to supporting them with not just solutions, but ongoing learning opportunities that build long-term success. Because at the end of the day, it’s the people in this industry, like those we met this week, who make transit work.
